Your First Trip Abroad: A Practical Packing & Prep Checklist
VNORAS trip ops · Aug 2, 2026 · 1 min read
Everything to sort in the four weeks before departure, from travel insurance to the one adapter that actually works.
Four weeks out
Confirm your passport has at least six months’ validity and two blank pages. Start any visa application now. Buy travel insurance that covers medical evacuation and trip cancellation - the day you book, not the day you fly.
Two weeks out
Tell your bank you’re travelling and carry a backup card on a different network. Download offline maps and your key contacts. Check the baggage allowance on every flight segment, not just the first.
Packing that actually helps
One universal adapter with USB ports, a small day pack, a refillable water bottle, and layers rather than bulk. A trip moves at the pace of the slowest bag - pack so you can carry everything up a flight of stairs yourself.
